Turismo Sostenible Cantabria is formed by a group of professionals from the tourism industry and the IT sector, environmentally aware and employed by the Mancomunidad de Municipios Sostenibles (MMS) to carry out a project to energize the development of a sustainable tourism within the municipalities that make up the MMS. When we mention sustainable tourism we refer to a type of tourism that encompasses activities respectful to the environment, the culture, the society and the values of a community that allows a positive exchange of experiences between residents and visitors. Therefore, the relationship between the tourist and the community is fair, the benefits are equally shared and visitors have a trully participative attitude during their journey.
Our aims are:
• To promote and make the most of the natural resources within the 16 municipalities in the MMS, always using these resources with respect.
• To value the tangible and intangible cultural patrimony in the towns, always preserving and empowering their cultural identity and with full respect to their distinctive features.
• To compile all possible tourist information about these municipalities to raise awareness, promote and communicate for a long term sustainable development with all parties involved such as, the local population and the competent authorities.
• In addition, if by practising this activity we identify a possible market niche in the tourism industry which we, or any others, can benefit from, better yet. This would be a good way to encourage an economic development in the area.
